Anxiety can be worry or stress related to things like dating and relationships, big life changes, becoming a new parent, or experiencing caregiver burn-out (teachers, parents, medical providers)
Does your anxiety feel like its become a part of you that is always there?
Maybe you’ve noticed that your body stays on alert and can’t relax. Maybe you’re also noticing how exhausted you are trying to hold your emotions in while they are pounding at the flood gates all day. Perhaps it’s been hard to feel really close to anyone as your mind has been taking you away during bonding and fun experiences with your kids, friends, partner, or even yourself. Or maybe, you're in a new relationship and realized you are spending a lot of time preparing for what could go wrong. It could be that you have started to avoid more than you experience in life. You’re feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, and like it takes so much work just to keep it all together.
You’ve noticed it has started to affect your life in more than one way…
Your body feels off- you have difficulty sleeping, body tension, headaches
You avoid conversations and interactions that you suspect will bring on your anxiety
Your days are full of long stretches of spiraling thoughts
Life is consumed by fear for the future
Whatever your version of anxiety is, it has felt terrifying and isolating
Anxiety therapy can help.
Somatic anxiety therapy helps you do the following, and more:
learn how to embrace the spectrum of emotions and not be afraid of them
learn to find and trust your inner voice and stand firm in what it thinks and feels
set realistic expectations for yourself and others
learn your limits and how to share them with others
open up to vulnerability and true intimacy and connection
pave new pathways to a calm body and calm mind
compassionately understand the bigger picture of how worry and overwhelm became a big part of you, so you can feel empowered to change your relationship with fears and embark on a peaceful life
It may feel impossible now, but you can navigate emotions so that they don’t overwhelm you. You can learn to trust yourself, embrace challenges and get to know yourself without the worry. I’m here to help guide you.
My somatic and attachment approach to anxiety therapy puts special attention to the emotions and body sensations that present themself during our session. I trust in this process and am here to help you through it. I will be adapting each step to your unique needs and circumstances.
Somatic therapy, or emotion and body focused therapy, is based on the understanding that checking in with yourself and your felt sense throughout a therapy session positively impacts internal change. The care and support we get from a therapist to navigate these new sensations and feelings can solidify growth and help rewire us to experience more safety and joy: leading to less anxiety and actually changing beliefs, such as not being good enough or not being able to do enough.

FAQs

Oftentimes, anxiety is actually triggered by a protective fear of emotion. How we feel and what we think can sometimes feel wrong or unworthy. When anxiety comes in and overwhelms us, getting in touch with our basic emotions feels like the worst possible idea. But, that is where my expertise comes in! We create the safety and infrastructure needed to touch-in on and metabolize these core parts of you and bring you to safety and calm.

If you have experienced some of these symptoms, but wouldn’t describe yourself as anxious, thats OK! My approach is a good fit for many presentations of dysregulation. Let’s talk more about what you are experiencing in a consultation call to see if we are a good fit.

Please just show up how you are. While it can be helpful if you have a general idea or motivation for why you are starting therapy, I am here to help you figure that out as soon as we start to work together. I am the expert and will help guide you.

The short answer is no. We do the work together in session. Many times my clients chose to take practices from our sessions into their daily life, but that is their choice. I don’t assign worksheets or tasks.
